the star of the show.
Well she/he was for me anyway, remarkable when we first saw mother and baby she was high up in the enclosure shielding the baby from everyones view turning round now and then to gaze down at us. Suddenly she just grabbed a rope and swang down and perched herself on the other side of the glass a foot from us to our utter amazment. At one point lucy my Grandchild placed her hand on the glass and unbelivably the baby orangutan placed her hand on the glass as if trying to touch her hand. This had the total wow factor for me, mother just seemed so proud to be sat there showing us her baby, an experiance i shall not forget, bless em:)

Something scary about this, Tim, but I understand what you mean.
tim hitchins: hmmm not sure what but hey we all have our own perspectives on images Chad, cheers
It's amazing how human the ape family looks, or perhaps it's the other way round! Mother love seems to be the same whatever species you are (apart from those animals that eat their young of course!) Wonderful expression you have captured - excellent.
Ingrid
tim hitchins: well thank you Ingird and i like your thoughts on this too
A very nice report about your zoo visit in Chester! And I very like your pic- Although I know that animals are animals I recognize some human characteristics in his/her face, a face which could be a very young and a rather old one at the same time! I can't stop to look at this face- very moving!
tim hitchins: yes it is Philine and i was so happy that i managed to capture this moment, one i will not forget for a long time
This is such a wow shot as you have mentioned and it should be one you cherish ...

Sweet portrait, Tim. I want to hug him/her.
tim hitchins: so did i Mary but then maybe mother might have had something to say on that one
I use firefox Tim an it has never been a problem. It is possible to turn the exif on and off in the preferences.
Anyway this is a delightful picture and it must have been a magical moment for Lucy.

What a wonderful photo! You are so lucky to have captured this amazing moment.
I'd like to invite you and your granddaughter to visit the Orangutan Outreach website: http://redapes.org We are a non-profit organization based in New York that brings attention to the plight of orangutans in the wild-- these precious beings are at the brink of extinction. We also raise funds for several projects on the ground-- the most famous of which is an orphanage called Nyaru Menteng. It's featured on Animal Planet's series 'Orangutan Island'. Maybe you'd like to adopt one of our orangutans for your granddaughter? Thanks for your time... Richard Zimmerman Director, Orangutan Outreach http://redapes.org Reach out and save the orangutans!
That is so cute. Absolutely stunning shot Tim. 50 mm ? You must have been pretty close for a shot like that. Great work.
tim hitchins: that is most appreciated Radel, close is the word as you can just see mothers chin which was probs no more than 12 inch from the lens, so glad i had this lens in my bag, i had been taking shots with my zoom lens until she swooped down to show off her young one, to say i was in a flap to change the lens was a understatement lol.
Wonderful picture!! I love babies of all kinds. Actually I am a nurse and have worked in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for 25 years. The premature babies tend to have big imploring eyes such as this baby orangutan. Therefore you can't help but love and cherish them.
tim hitchins: your so right cathy, i could have took her home for sure, she would probably felt at home in this nut house
They have very recently added a choice to tick whether you want to show EXIF. It sits at the bottom where I was used to have the border choice. So yes it happened to me as well last week. Thought I was switching the border off and actually switched off EXIF.
There will come a day that we will be warned of changes and additions. Until then I will have my eyes wide in wonderment of the great picture. PS. I didn't know you were a grandad
tim hitchins: young Grandad Louis
really happy you enjoyed the photo mate
